A tragic incident occurred early this morning on State Road 436 near Winter Park, where a bicyclist lost their life after being struck by an SUV, as reported by the Florida Highway Patrol. The crash took place around 2:25 a.m. on North Semoran Boulevard close to Hanging Moss Road, with the SUV, identified as a 2010 Lexus RX, hitting the bicyclist from behind. The 33-year-old Casselberry man driving the Lexus said that he failed to see the bicyclist on the road, ClickOrlando reported.
The cyclist, whose identity is still pending identification by the medical examiner's office, was traveling northbound in the outermost lane when the incident occurred. As a result, both the driver and the 28-year-old Longwood passenger in the Lexus were unharmed, according to FOX 35 Orlando. After the collision, the victim was transported to Advent Health Winter Park, where they were pronounced dead, bringing a sobering reminder of the vulnerability of cyclists on busy roadways.
The driver of the Lexus and the passenger stayed at the scene after the accident, cooperating with law enforcement as they arrived for investigation. The Florida Highway Patrol is still looking into the factors contributing to this fatal crash to determine if charges will be filed.
