In a routine traffic stop that unfolded into a significant arrest, Big Bear deputies took 54-year-old Allen Vian into custody under charges including a Federal Marshal Warrant for alien smuggling. The arrest took place last Saturday on the streets of Big Bear Lake, as reported by the SBSD Big Bear Sheriffs Department.
During the stop on Big Bear Blvd and Pine Knot Ave., Vian, a Big Bear City resident, was found to clearly be in violation of the new codes set forth by California's Proposition 36, which voters passed to effectively amend and bolster laws against homelessness, drug addiction, and theft. These enhancements were meant to address failings of Proposition 47 and evidently, have begun to be utilized by law enforcement. According to the SBSD Big Bear Sheriffs Department, Vian's vehicle revealed a cocktail of illegal possessions: methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and ammunition.
The collision of Vian's past and the present converged harshly. With prior convictions staring back at him, his status as a convicted felon and the newfound cache discovered in his vehicle solidified his arrest. He faces charges for being a Felon in Possession of Ammunition and for possessing controlled substances and drug paraphernalia with prior convictions. He now awaits a February 6 court appearance while confined at the West Valley Detention Center on a $280,000 bail, as detailed by the SBSD Big Bear Sheriffs Department.
