Atlanta's local favorite, Big Dave's Cheesesteaks, faced yet another water-related mishap when its Jonesboro Road location suffered significant water damage due to a pipe burst. The unfortunate incident led to a temporary closure of the establishment, leaving loyal patrons craving their iconic cheesesteaks, as FOX 5 Atlanta reported. According to the owner Derrick Hayes, the pipe burst was possibly due to the below freezing temperatures in the metro Atlanta area over the past days, although the root cause is unconfirmed.
Having previously endured the closure of the original downtown location on Forsyth Street after a major water main break, Hayes is facing a déjà vu of sorts, dealing with similar water woes at his newest venture. As seen in an Instagram video cited by 11Alive, which came from Hayes himself, the dining spot's reopening was accomplished by Friday afternoon following the Thursday ordeal. "Wow, I can't win... This happened to me on Forsyth Street and now Jonesboro," Hayes expressed his frustration in the video update.
Despite the setback, the resilient owner was still hopeful. "I don't even know what to say at this point... I just know that something good is going to happen. I opened up a new store, and now this happened," Hayes told 11Alive. The newfound downtown Atlanta location on Marietta Street had opened just before the incident, marking a fresh start after the previous closure.
Big Dave's Cheesesteaks, named in honor of Hayes' late father, began its journey in a modest 700-square-foot space at a Shell gas station in Dunwoody, Georgia, hailing from West Philadelphia origins. Known for its hearty subs that combine comfort with culinary innovation, the restaurant has become an integral part of the Atlanta food scene.
