The community of Bloomington is mourning the loss of a deeply committed volunteer, Tom Archibald, who recently passed away at 72. For over four decades, Archibald dedicated his time to improve various aspects of community life – a testament to his altruistic spirit.
Among his many contributions, Archibald was involved with the Creekside Senior Dining program and the Fare for All program, helping in the kitchen and ensuring seniors in his community had a welcoming place to gather. Despite facing personal physical and mental challenges, he often went to great lengths, walking miles or taking buses to lend his support.
Lorinda Pearson, a former City employee who knew Archibald well, spoke highly of him: "Tom Archibald was a dedicated volunteer whose contributions enriched the city of Bloomington for more than 40 years. His reliability and genuine enjoyment helping others made him a cherished member of the community. He will be deeply missed," she told City of Bloomington's news site.
His efforts went beyond volunteer work. Amanda Crombie, a City employee, shared her fondness for Archibald's gesture of sending handwritten Christmas cards, evidencing his thoughtful nature. He had a "very good heart," Crombie expressed, marking the depth of his personal touch that reached many within the community.
A celebration of life service was held at the Creekside Community Center, which was akin to a second home for Archibald. His decades of service stand as a beacon for community engagement and altruism, as countless individuals continue to benefit from his legacy of kindness and unwavering support for the betterment of his fellow residents.
