A New Year's Eve confrontation in the parking lot of Benco Electric Cooperative has led to an ongoing investigation, following an incident involving a shooting and subsequent injury. In a social media post from the Blue Earth County Sheriff's Office, it was detailed that deputies responded to 20946 549th Avenue after receiving reports of broken glass and a handgun found on the site. Shortly after, a female presented at MCHS with a gunshot wound, which authorities believe correlates to the violence that erupted that evening.
According to the Sheriff's Office, surveillance footage identified two individuals exchanging gunfire beside a vehicle. The injured woman, who is currently hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, appeared to have been at the scene but was not an active participant in the shooting. Following up on leads, deputies located and detained 18-year-old Abdikhadar Fakhi Mohidin at a nearby residence, who matched the description of one of the individuals from the video.
The investigation suggests a drug-related motive, with suspected marijuana found near the scene of the shattered glass and discarded firearm. While the specific details remain tightly held during the active investigation, the Sheriff's Office has reaffirmed the absence of any additional threats or risks to public safety, following the arrest of Mohidin. The identity or the condition of the other shooter involved has not been disclosed as of yet.
The gunshot victim's current status is stable, according to hospital sources, and she continues to receive care.
