Early Thursday morning, the grim discovery of a deceased individual disrupted the flow of traffic along the northbound 5 Freeway in Los Angeles' Lincoln Heights neighborhood.
Calls to the California Highway Patrol at around 1:56 a.m. prompted a response to what appeared to be a body, partially occupying the slow lane and right shoulder near the Broadway exit, as reported by The Eastsider LA. The incident has triggered an investigation into a possible hit-and-run.
As commuters awoke to the news, the identity, gender, and age of the individual remained undisclosed. Citing the urgency for investigators to comb the scene, the California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert at 2:29 a.m., closing multiple traffic lanes, which were later reopened around 5 a.m., as confirmed by MyNewsLA.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident, according to CBS Los Angeles.
