A Canonsburg man is among those seriously injured in a truck attack on New Year's Eve in New Orleans, as per reports by local news outlets. Fifty-one-year-old Jeremi Sensky was in the Crescent City to celebrate the new year with family when tragedy struck shortly after the countdown.
Jeremi Sensky, already reliant on a wheelchair for mobility, was returning to his hotel after enjoying pizza with friends when a truck careened into the festive crowd. According to WPXI, his legs were severely broken in the incident, demanding immediate surgery. His daughter, Heaven Sensky Kirsch, while shaken, expressed relief and disbelief at her father's survival, "He’s alive. We can’t believe he’s alive," she said.
In a similar strain, WTAE reported that Sensky was marked alive by a responding police officer and transported to the University Medical Center. Heaven Sensky Kirsch articulated her family's harrowing experience to journalists: "By the grace of God, he's alive. I want people to know that my dad is alive, full of life. He is resilient and lives vibrantly and I'm sure he'll continue to."
The attack has impacted them and the sports community, as Pittsburgh Pirates pitchers Paul Skeens and Bubba Chandler, along with Skeens’ girlfriend Livvy Dunne, were in New Orleans during the incident. Dunne shared social media posts that night, including a broken heart emoji, reflecting the city's shift from celebration to sorrow.
Authorities have not yet revealed the attacker’s identity or motive.
