Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit is currently investigating a homicide that transpired on the I-85 southbound ramp near W. WT Harris Boulevard. According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, the incident occurred yesterday, just before 10:00 p.m. following reports of a vehicle crash.
Officers arriving at the scene found a victim with a gunshot wound. The injured party was promptly taken by MEDIC to a nearby hospital where they eventually died from their injuries. Arrests at the scene were made, and authorities have assured the public that there are not any ongoing threats to the community. This is part of an effort to forcefully ensure the safety of those within the University City Division and to maintain order.
The investigation is being vigorously pursued, with detectives collecting evidence and processing the scene closely followed by Crime Scene Search personnel. Support was also provided by CMPD's Operations Command, Victim Services, and the Charlotte Fire Department (CFD).
