A fatal shooting occurred on an I-85 ramp in northeast Charlotte, marking the first homicide of 2025 in the area. The incident was reported yesterday night, around 10 p.m., when Charlotte-Mecklenburg police were dispatched to the southbound ramp at West W.T. Harris Boulevard. According to WBTV, upon arrival, officers found a person suffering from a gunshot wound who was subsequently transported to the hospital and later pronounced dead.
Authorities have arrested a suspect at the scene, ensuring that there was no additional threat to the public. The name of the deceased, nor that of the arrested individual have yet to be disclosed. Those with any relevant information about the shooting are encouraged contact detectives at 704-432-TIPS, or to submit anonymous tips on the Crime Stoppers’ website, as told by QC News.
The WCNC report indicates the incident also involved a crash that led to minor injuries for another person. While the exact connection between the crash and the shooting has not been established, the interstate saw three of its lanes closed as first responders worked overnight on the case, grounding traffic to a halt and carving a scene of flashing lights against the dark skyline.
Members of the public with any knowledge that could assist in the ongoing homicide investigation are asked to come forward. "University City officers made an arrest on scene and there are not any additional threats to the community at this time," stated a police spokesperson, as per WCNC. The Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department continues to investigate the incident that disrupted the night's calm on the busy interstate.
