
The community of Cheraw, South Carolina, is coming to terms with the tragic loss of 24-year-old police officer Dwight Marshall, whose life was cut short following a traffic accident on Saturday, while he was off duty. The WBTV report noted that the Cheraw Police Chief Julius Riley remembered Marshall as one of the town's "youngest and brightest stars," whose presence and demeanor would invariably "made the room feel better."
According to WCNC Charlotte, the officer was returning to town during a strong rainstorm when his vehicle hydroplaned and subsequently collided with a 16-passenger van after striking a guard rail and skidding across lanes. Taken to the McLeod Trauma Center in Florence, his injuries ultimately proved fatal, upon which the department expressed their devastation over the young officer who had been regarded as one of their finest.
The Cheraw Police Department reached out to the public for support through a heartfelt social media post, as shown on Facebook, asking for prayers not only for Marshall's grieving family but for his colleagues as well. Chief Julius K. Riley, in a display of town solidarity, assured the community that despite their profound sorrow, the department's commitment to keeping Cheraw safe remains unwavering as they strive to honor the memory of their fallen brother.
