Amid the turmoil of deciding the future home of the Chicago Bears, President Kevin Warren is eyeing a start for stadium construction sometime this year. Despite uncertainties and swirling speculation, Warren's confidence in the groundbreaking timeline persists, with hopes pinned on a lakefront location adjacent to Soldier Field. Yet, an alternate prospect simmers as the team holds 326 acres at the former Arlington International Racecourse site, waiting in the wings.

"We were able to get the memorandum of understanding done there. So optionality does exist," Warren told the Chicago Sun-Times. But despite this optionality, the Bears' leader emphasized a steadfast aspiration to break Chicago's lakefront soil with the vigor of an NFL lineman by 2025. The previous April had seen the Bears flaunt a $4.7 billion vision for a domed stadium complex.

This proposed lakefront development, demanding a significant $900 million slice of public financing, caused a stir akin to a quarterback sack, with Governor JB Pritzker swiftly dismissing the notion as a "non-starter." Nevertheless, Warren's goal remains undeterred, rooted in the fertile ground of optimism. "I feel the momentum is really moving in the right direction, and we're exactly from a stadium standpoint right exactly where I thought we would be," Warren told CBS News Chicago.

Aside from the lakefront aspirations, Arlington Heights remains a viable contender, recently buoyed by the village board endorsing a property tax agreement with the Bears and area school districts, igniting speculation and, potentially, a fresh round of discussions. While Arlington Heights Village President Thomas Hayes appears to clutch onto hope like a football during fourth down, the Bears have tossed yet another possibility into the mix, mulling over a build on the historic grounds of the former Michael Reese Hospital in Bronzeville.
