In a move that affects pedestrians and cyclists alike, a significant portion of the Courtney Campbell Causeway pedestrian trail will be closed temporarily. As reported by the City of Clearwater, the south side of the trail from Bayshore Boulevard to Dr. Kiran C. Patel Boulevard was shut down starting yesterday and is anticipated to remain out of service through the end of 2025, pending favorable weather conditions.
This closure allows for the construction of a pedestrian overpass over Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard, east of Bayshore Boulevard. Signs are set to alert the public to the trail closure, according to the City of Clearwater announcement. This interruption in accessibility is tied to a larger initiative to connect the Bayshore Trail and the Courtney Campbell Causeway Trail, a project aimed at enhancing the safe passage for those traveling by foot or on two wheels in the area, weather permitting, the completion is targeted for late 2026.
Officials encourage patrons to plan alternative routes during this time and to adhere to the construction signage for safety. The project endeavors to improve the connectivity of local trails and ultimately provide a seamless experience for commuters and recreational users alike. The City of Clearwater has emphasized that the advance notice and efficient placement of signs are steps taken to minimize disruption to the public.
