Following a notably lackluster season, the Cleveland Browns are reshuffling their coaching staff by parting ways with offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey and offensive line coach Andy Dickerson. This move comes from a 3-14 season finish, a league source confirmed to News 5 Cleveland. Dorsey and Dickerson's terminations mark an abrupt end to their singularly unimpressive season with the team.
After being brought in to rejuvenate the offense, Dorsey's and Dickerson's offense was mired by poor performance. The Browns, who had only been able to eke out three wins the entire season, found themselves dead last in the NFL with an average of 15.2 points per game, according to Cleveland19. Their offensive yardage told a similarly dreary tale, with just 300.8 yards per game on average, placing them fifth overall.
Quarterback woes compounded the Browns' troubles; they saw four different quarterbacks start throughout the season, as noted by WKYC. Deshaun Watson's season-ending Achilles injury in Week 7 left the team juggling between Jameis Winston, Dorian Thompson-Robinson, and Bailey Zappe, who collectively managed only two wins.
Head Coach Kevin Stefanski had ceded play-calling duties to Dorsey to salvage the season. Still, the Browns' offensive struggles persisted, which included a 27th ranking in total offensive yards per game and a 28th in rushing yards per game with a statement obtained by Cleveland19. Dorsey had previously developed a reputation for offensive expertise during his tenure with the Buffalo Bills, where he helped in quarterback Josh Allen's development. Still, he was dismissed mid-season in 2023 after the Bills' poor performance.
The Browns are now tasked with finding new leadership for their offense as they head into the offseason. The search for a new offensive coordinator to fill the void left by Dorsey is underway, as is the quest for a new offensive line coach to succeed Dickerson. Both Dorsey and Dickerson had joined the team to turn the tide after a playoff loss in the 2023 season but found themselves victims to a coaching carousel that keeps spinning for the Cleveland Browns, as noted in a report from News 5 Cleveland.
