
Coachella, CA was the site of a grim discovery on Monday evening when deputies from the Thermal Sheriff's Station were called to a residential area in response to an assault report. According to the Riverside County Sheriff's Office, upon their arrival at approximately 10:18 p.m., they found an adult male deceased from traumatic injuries on the 51000 block of Calle Empalme.
The Riverside County Sheriff's Office - Central Homicide Unit quickly took over the investigation. The identification of the victim remains undisclosed to the public at this time. In the course of the inquiry, 44-year-old Mario Gonzalez, residing in Coachella, emerged as the suspect, as detailed by the Riverside County Sheriff's Office. Authorities located Gonzalez in a neighboring trailer where he initially refused to surrender to law enforcement.
Following hours of negotiation by the Riverside County Sheriff's Special Enforcement Bureau, Gonzalez eventually agreed to exit the trailer, leading to his apprehension. He was subsequently booked into the John Benoit Detention Center under the charge of murder.
