A Columbus neighborhood is grappling with a tragedy after a 19-year-old man was charged with the murder of his father. In what marks the fifth homicide in Columbus in 2025, Antiono Alvarez-Taylor is accused of shooting 45-year-old Frederick Taylor during a physical altercation in their Hilltop home.
The incident occurred early, just after 10 a.m. yesterday. Columbus police arrived promptly at the scene in the 600 block of Butler Avenue, where they discovered Frederick Taylor with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite efforts to render aid, he was pronounced dead at 10:10 a.m., as reported by The Columbus Dispatch.
Details provided by court documents and covered by ABC6 indicate that the shooting stemmed from a fight between the father and son, with Antiono Alvarez-Taylor allegedly pulling out a handgun and firing multiple times at his father. Following the shooting, Alvarez-Taylor was arrested without further incident. He is expected to be arraigned in court on Friday.
In a subsequent court appearance, a Franklin County judge set Alvarez-Taylor's bond at $750,000 and issued a protective order, explicitly directing the accused to stay away from the prosecuting witness' family. The judge also ordered that Antiono have no further acts or threats of violence and banned him from possessing any firearms or other weapons, as per a report from WBNS News. His next court appearance is set for February 7.
