Early this morning, a Comstock Township Fire & Rescue truck became the unintended target of a crash on Interstate 94. The Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office reported that the incident occurred around 5:30 a.m. near the 83-mile marker, as per WOOD TV. First responders were initially called to the scene due to a truck leaving the road and colliding with a power pole. In the midst of the investigation and response effort, the stationary fire truck, positioned to block the outer lane, was struck by an oncoming vehicle.

The details on the secondary collision were confirmed by both WOOD TV and FOX 17 News, which indicated that the driver was unable to avoid crashing into the fire truck. The 29-year-old woman from Battle Creek who was driving the car sustained injuries from the collision, leading to her transportation to the hospital. However, these were stated to be non-life-threatening. Remarkably, despite the severity of the accident, no first responders were harmed.

Both vehicles involved in the second crash sustained considerable damage. Following the incident, a closure of both lanes on the westbound side of Interstate 94 was necessitated as crews awaited the arrival of Consumers Energy. They needed to assess the damage to the power pole and initiate repairs. According to Arc West Michigan, the roadway has since been reopened.
