Residents of West Hawai‘i looking for a more personal connection with their local law enforcement will have the opportunity at the upcoming Coffee With a Cop events this month in Kona. According to a recent Hawaii Police Department, these gatherings aim to foster a relaxed environment where community members can converse with their district police officers, discuss community issues, or simply share life stories over a warm beverage.
The events, known for their casual 'no agenda' style, seek to break down barriers and encourage open dialogue between Kona's residents and the officers serving their area, these sessions are not just about policing they're arguably a step towards building mutual trust and understanding in a time when connections of this nature are more necessary than can be aptly put into words. The first Coffee With a Cop meetup is set for Wednesday, January 15, at Kona Heaven Coffee in the Coconut Grove Shopping Center, followed by meetings on subsequent dates across different local coffee establishments.
Residents eager to participate can swing by from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the aforementioned Kona Heaven Coffee, and also at Kona Mountain Coffee Co. on Friday, January 17, Uncle Kimo’s Coffee Shop on Wednesday, January 22, and Kona Coffee & Tea on Friday, January 24, with each venue nestled in the heart of Kailua-Kona, ready to serve up not just coffee but also potentially impactful community conversations.
For more information or specific questions, contact Kona Community Policing officers at (808) 326-4646, ext. 257 or ext. 258. They can provide details about the Coffee With a Cop initiative.
