The quest for accountability in the Alexis Gabe case has led the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office to conclude its investigation into Alicia Coleman-Clark, the mother of Marshall Curtis Jones III, without filing accessory after the fact charges. As reported by the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office, the investigation examined whether Coleman-Clark helped her son following Gabe's tragic death in January 2022, but officials found insufficient evidence to warrant charges against her.

Despite Jones being charged with first-degree murder in May and his subsequent death during a warrant arrest in Washington State, prosecutors remained diligent in probing all potential leads, which included a forensic examination of clothing found with Gabe's remains. No gunshot residue was discovered, a re-interview of Coleman-Clark’s former boyfriend who corroborated his initial claim that a comment made about something "cold" pertained to a soda can, not the remains, and attempts to trace the whereabouts of a second black plastic bag, believed to contain Gabe's remains, which ultimately proved fruitless according to instructions provided by law enforcement.

Investigators also dove into the particulars of a flight to Seattle, once thought to possibly implicate Coleman-Clark in assisting her son's escape. Still, no evidence surfaced to support this suspicion. "The records obtained did not indicate any purchase activity involving Coleman-Clark," states the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office, aligning with the lack of incriminating data overall.

Despite a thread of incidents that suggested possible culpability, District Attorney Diana Becton communicated a decisive outcome, as per the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office, "We extend our deepest condolences to the Gabe family for the unimaginable loss of Alexis. Our office has worked tirelessly over the past three years to pursue every lead. While we have concluded our investigation into this matter, we remain committed to supporting the Gabe family."
