Yesterday afternoon in Dallas, a confrontation between police and a man reported to be brandishing a firearm escalated into an officer-involved shooting. According to the Dallas Police Department, the incident took place around 3:20 p.m. on the 11000 block of Joaquin Drive after residents called in about a man waving a gun at passing vehicles.
The police arrived at the scene and found the man as mentioned above. A preliminary investigation detailed that the suspect, upon sighting the officers, pointed the gun in their direction. The officers then issued verbal commands before discharging their weapons and striking the suspect. The officers promptly initiated first aid, maintaining care until Dallas Fire-Rescue could take over and transport the individual to a local hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition.
As per the standard protocol, the Dallas County District Attorney's office was informed of the shooting, and officers from the D.A.'s office attended the scene to commence their independent investigation. Additionally, the Office of Community Police Oversight was notified, and they, too, responded to the ongoing investigation scene.
The Dallas Police Department has announced that additional details will be shared with the public in the following days as inquiries progress. For now, the names of the individuals involved have not been released, nor have any additional details about what precipitated the initial distress calls.
