In Oakley streets, police officers pursued suspected robbers in a high-speed chase across Contra Costa County. Details of the event came to light through a social media post from the City of Oakley.
Last Friday, Officer F. Williams of the Oakley Police Department spotted a gray Honda Accord, its license plate a mismatch for the vehicle and flagged as lost or stolen off the back of a Lexus. This vehicle had been implicated in a Dublin robbery, bolstering suspicion. Partnered with Officer R. Hernandez, they tried to pull the car over. Instead of yielding, the Honda roared onto westbound Highway 4, igniting a pursuit that reached dangerously high speeds.
The chase drew the attention of the Contra Costa County Sheriff helicopter STARR, which provided aerial support as the ground pursuit pushed through to Hercules. The driver, later identified as 20-year-old Kalil Houston, abandoned the Honda in the 1900 block of Railroad Avenue and attempted his escape on foot. Meanwhile, the passenger, 21-year-old Isaiah Mitchell, stayed put and was immediately detained. Houston's flight was short-lived; the officers caught up.
Upon searching the suspect's vehicle, police discovered a collection of stolen license plates, a blank key fob, and spent shell casings visibly scattered within. In a dangerous twist during the pursuit, a black Ford Mustang tried to obstruct police, adding a layer of complexity to an already tense operation.
