Chaos erupted on the streets of Newburgh Heights last Friday when police gave chase to an alleged intoxicated driver who took a dangerous turn going the wrong way on a state route. According to Cleveland19, the Newburgh Heights Police Department attempted to stop the driver just after 8:15 p.m. on Harvard Avenue, but the suspect fled, leading to the pursuit.
Despite the vehicle's two flat tires, courtesy of spike strips used by NHPD, the driver persisted in their escape attempt. Still tirelessly attempting to elude capture, the suspect continued on State Route 176 in a perilous direction. Eventually, police managed to stop the vehicle, which was now traveling the wrong way on the major road, as reported by Cleveland19.
In a similar account, WKYC reported that after the vehicle's two tires were deflated, the driver still attempted to enter state Route 176 northbound, going the wrong way before being arrested on an exit ramp. The police action ensured no injuries occurred during the alarming incident.
Providing further details, News 5 Cleveland stated that the Newburgh Heights Police used a precision immobilization technique (PIT) maneuver to halt the chaotic drive of the suspect, who tried entering the highway in the southbound lane but was caught on an exit ramp, driving the wrong way despite the two flat tires. The driver was found intoxicated and in possession of a loaded firearm, prompting charges that included operating a vehicle while impaired (OVI), fleeing, using weapons while drunk, and having a gun while under disability.
