The Denver Regional Transportation District (RTD) has taken a significant leap in enhancing its safety measures with the introduction of an internal detective bureau dedicated to investigating crimes across its properties, as announced by the agency on Tuesday. According to CBS News Colorado, the RTD Police Department's foray into direct criminal investigations marks a new chapter for the agency, enabling a more streamlined and focused response to transit crime.

Taking a closer look at the operational plans, the RTD-PD's detective bureau is expected to be fully active by the middle of the year and also forecasts the addition of two more detectives to the unit later in the year, as obtained by 9News, which would help broaden the scope of their investigative work and RTD has emphasized their priority for public safety with the launch of this new bureau, "We want people to utilize our services and feel safe doing so," articulated RTD spokesperson Cousineau; with the new bureau set to take on a variety of criminal issues including thefts, personal crimes, and narcotics violations on RTD properties.

This bureau's emergence follows the recruitment of several detectives, boasting an average of nearly three decades of law enforcement experience, a move that underscores the agency's commitment to employing seasoned professionals in the safeguarding of its jurisdictions. KDVR reports that the newly hired detectives will be instrumental in probing criminal activities on RTD property, indicating an increase in the organization's resources dedicated to maintaining law and order within its transit system.
