As Destrehan sees an uptick in roadwork this week, drivers and residents will need to adjust their routes accordingly. According to a recent report by St. Charles Parish's official website, the area around Ormond Center Court is currently experiencing road construction, with closures spanning from 150 Ormond Center Court near Rotolo's Pizza to 3001 Ormond Blvd close to Buddy's Frostop. To manage the detour, motorists have been directed to follow a set-up route to help to smoothly navigate through the affected area.
Additionally, traffic disruptions will be impacting Ormond Boulevard starting last Monday. The southbound lanes between Thomas Coby Drive and Elmwood Drive will be unavailable from 7:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. daily. This closure is scheduled to last until Friday, January 17, and is vital for the purpose of completing the sewer force main tie-in at the intersection of Ormond Boulevard and Wildcat Lane, as reported by the St. Charles Parish.
Southbound drivers on Ormond Boulevard will be detoured to Thomas Coby Drive, then left onto Schexnaydre Lane, with clear detour signs in place. Residents on the west side of Ormond Boulevard between Thomas Coby and Wildcat Lane will need to use median crossings for a U-turn to the northbound side, which is not affected by the work. Despite the detours, Wildcat Lane will remain accessible for Destrehan High School buses and students during busy morning and afternoon times, as detailed by the St. Charles Parish.
In a concurrent but separate initiative, the 600 block of Lakewood Dr. is also listed for closures. The southbound lane will be closed for street panel repairs until Friday, January 17. The northbound lane of Lakewood Dr., however, will remain open for use. To address safety concerns, the notice from St. Charles Parish's website ensures that emergency vehicles and citizens will have the ability to pass through the work zone without hindrance. The coordination of these multiple road closures underlines a dedication to maintaining and improving the core infrastructure of Destrehan's local streets and utilities.
