
Early Saturday morning, a man was killed at a Downtown Austin gas station, sparking a homicide investigation by the Austin Police Department. According to KVUE, the incident occurred at approximately 3:05 a.m. at the Citgo gas station located at 717 E. Seventh St. The responding officers discovered a man inside a vehicle with "obvious signs of trauma."
First responders attempted to administer life-saving measures until Austin-Travis County EMS arrived and transported the man to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. CBS Austin reported the officers initially responded to a call of a man with a gun at the aforementioned address. The victim was found with gunshot trauma wounds in an car.
The police have detained an individual for questioning and witnesses are being interviewed as part of the investigation. Both sources indicate that police believe this to be an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to the public, however, the specifics of the encounter and what led to the gunfire have not been disclosed.

Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in the investigation. As per CBS Austin, this event is being investigated as the third homicide of the year 2025.
