Yesterday morning, tragedy struck on US-101 in Santa Rosa when a high-speed car crash resulted in the death of a driver and significant injuries to a passenger. According to a social media post from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) - Santa Rosa, officers responded to the incident north of Dry Creek Road at approximately 4:12am after receiving 911 calls concerning a vehicle driving at dangerously high speeds.
The scene that CHP and fire departments encountered was dire; an Infiniti sedan was discovered off the road, engulfed in flames. Once the raging fire was handled, a male driver, whose journey had come to a fiery halt, was pronounced dead at the scene. Traveling with him, a female passenger was rushed to the hospital with major yet non-life-threatening injuries. It's reported that the Infiniti lost control while speeding on the northbound lane, leading to its fatal collision with a tree.
During the preliminary investigation, authorities determined that excessive speed was likely the main cause of the crash. The driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to leave the road and crash, which led to the fire. The Sonoma County Sheriff's Coroner's office handles inquiries about the deceased.
