Chaos briefly reigned at The Mellow SF plant store yesterday when a Tesla sedan unexpectedly plowed into the establishment. Owners of The Mellow, located in San Francisco’s bustling Mission District, saw their business day cut short after the automated vehicle malfunctioned and collided with the store's facade, creating unease but no physical injuries, as KRON4 reported.
Lorena Cortez, co-owner of The Mellow, observed that the store had to wrap up operations four hours earlier than planned, noting the sad turn of events on what had begun as a promising busy day, this taking place at a time when sales have been slow according to KRON4. The closure directly resulted from the shock caused by the unexpected Tesla intrusion and the need to address immediate safety concerns despite no injuries being reported. The vehicle responsible for the crash belonged to the property manager, a revelation that led to a law enforcement decision not to file a report, relayed by Mission Local.
Witness Elizabeth Creely, who stumbled upon the aftermath while riding her bike in the area, recounted a conversation with the Tesla's driver to Mission Local, in which the driver claimed the vehicle's autopilot failed to execute a turn. Her subsequent attempt to take control resulted in her foot pressing down on the accelerator accidentally. The Mellow SF's security footage captured the car impacting the building and the flurry of startled shoppers and passersby fleeing the cacophony of twisted metal and shattering brick.
The driver, whose identity remains undisclosed, was visibly shaken but unharmed.
