Early on Wednesday morning, Duluth Fire Department responded to an alarming call—a fire had broken out in a home on Spear Avenue. Officials reported that the call came at approximately 4:18 AM and fire crews were quick to the scene, finding a residence engulfed in smoke with flames originating from its basement. No human injuries were reported, though the fire resulted in a tragic loss for the family's pets, with three dogs found deceased.
Efforts to control the blaze saw multiple stations, including Woodland, UMD, Lakeside, and Downtown units, collaborating in combat against the inferno. The rapid response from these crews managed to prevent human casualties, safely evacuating all the home's residents. According to the official statement, the American Red Cross is assisting the now-displaced residents as they navigate this unforeseen disruption of their lives.
The damage from the fire has been estimated to affect the residents financially to the tune of $100,000. While the physical harm must be calculated in monetary sums, the emotional toll and impact on personal history cannot be quantified. The Duluth Fire Marshal's office has taken up the mantle to uncover the cause of this disaster and is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding it.
In the wake of the fire, the Duluth Fire Department has acknowledged the support and aid from various local organizations and services. The DFD extended thanks to its partners, including Duluth Police, Duluth Public Works and Utilities, Saint Louis County Emergency Services, American Red Cross, and Minnesota Power, for their roles in addressing the incident response.
