Residents of Station Place Apartments at 3315 Broadway in Everett were awoken in the dark, early hours this morning by the blare of an automatic fire alarm. According to an official release from the Everett Fire Department, the alarm, triggered at approximately 12:35 a.m., was soon followed by calls to 911 from residents reporting smoke and flames coming from a third-story unit.
The responding units, which included Ladder 1, arrived to find the building's occupants in the process of evacuating, and a kitchen fire on the third floor being held at bay by the sprinkler system already in action. While they were controlling the fire, Engine 1 and Medic 1 worked to stretch a hose line to the affected floor, and Engine 2 supplied water, as detailed by the Everett Fire Department. Other teams searched the building, ensuring everyone had gotten out. Although the affected apartment was damaged by the fire and water, thanks to the firefighting teams and the sprinkler system, the blaze was extinguished in under 20 minutes.
Despite the swift containment, some of the lower units and commercial space on the main floor did not escape unscathed, sustaining water damage. The Red Cross has stepped in to aid seven residents who have been displaced as a result of the fire and ensuing damages. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, with the exact reasons yet to be determined, as per the Everett Fire Department.
