The blare of sirens awakened Pittsburgh's Marshall-Shadeland neighborhood as firefighters rushed to extinguish a one-alarm residential fire in the 3000 block of Cake Way. According to a recent report from the City of Pittsburgh blotter, the blaze began early, and residents were at home during the incident.
Three individuals were in the residence when the fire broke out, hastily making their way out of a second-floor window. Their escape was aided by a neighbor, who lent critical support during the harrowing ordeal. One adult sustained an ankle injury upon landing but declined transportation to medical facilities. A firefighter involved in the response operation injured their shoulder, necessitating stable condition transport to the hospital for treatment.
The fire started at the back of the house, and the Fire Investigation Unit is investigating its cause. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire and prevent future incidents.
