Eden Prairie is calling upon its young community members to reflect on the contributions of Black civil rights leaders through creativity this Black History Month. In what's being dubbed the "Words in Action" contest, students from kindergarten to 12th grade are tasked with selecting a quote from a Black American leader and showcasing their interpretation of it across various mediums – be it art, writing, audio, or video.

The contest emphasizes not just historical reverence but also present-day application, as students are encouraged to ponder over and articulate the steps they can take on their own and what paths the community can pursue collectively to honor the legacies of those who fought for racial equality and social justice, the city announced.

Come Feb. 18, the winners of the contest will be acknowledged at the City Council meeting and prominently featured across the City's digital platforms. The Eden Prairie Community Foundation has chipped in to sponsor cash prizes for the victorious few.

The deadline for these expressions is tight, with a window from Jan. 9 to Feb. 3.

Those seeking to participate or find additional details can do so by visiting the official contest page on the City of Eden Prairie's website, where guidelines and entry forms are readily available.
