An elderly woman has succumbed to injuries from a traffic incident that occurred on December 30, 2024, as reported by the Houston Police Department. The crash took place at around 10:05 a.m. at the 2500 block of South State Highway 6, where the 74-year-old victim, whose name has yet to be confirmed, was struck by a northbound white Kia Sorento whilst she was crossing the street away from any designated crosswalks, according to Houston police officials.
The driver of the Kia, identified as a 32-year-old male, stopped immediately after the incident and cooperated with the police. It was determined that he was not under the influence at the time of the crash. He was questioned and released as the investigation by Houston's Vehicular Crimes Division, led by Sergeant L. Ross and Officer A. Thomas, continues. These details also emerged from the same Houston police communication.
Paramedics from the Houston Fire Department responded to the scene and transported the woman to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead last Friday, five days after the accident occurred, as reported by the Houston Police Department.
At present, no charges have been filed in connection with the incident, as the investigation into the circumstances of the crash is ongoing. The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences is working to confirm the identity of the deceased. Authorities urge pedestrians and drivers to exercise caution and remain vigilant, particularly when navigating roadways without pedestrian crossings.
