A tragic three-vehicle collision claimed the life of an elderly woman and left several injured on San Antonio's Southeast Side. The San Antonio Police Department reported the accident occurred around 3:30 p.m. yesterday at the junction of South Presa Street and the Southeast Loop 410 access road. According to KENS 5, a vehicle was stationary at the intersection with another vehicle halted behind it when a third, sedan-type vehicle operated by an impaired 51-year-old man collided into them.
The immediate aftermath of the impact was dire, with SAFD responders arriving at the South Loop 410 and South Presa intersection to find the 80-year-old woman deceased at the scene. Further complicating the traffic mishap was a 21-year-old victim, hospitalized with a broken leg, as noted by SAPD. The driver responsible for the crash was suspected of intoxication and faced subsequent legal repercussions, including charges of intoxication manslaughter and additional injury charges, as reported by KSAT.
Police are investigating the incident as the community deals with the impact of drunk driving. San Antonio Police confirmed that the woman killed was in the same car as the 21-year-old man with a broken leg.
