On Thursday, the City of Milwaukee held a media event to film the demolition of the former Northridge Mall. Reporters captured the takedown of areas once occupied by Younkers and JCPenney. The mall, which has been closed for years, is expected to be fully demolished by mid-summer, according to the City of Milwaukee.
The demolition took place between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. with no press conference. City officials were not present for questions. Veit & Company, overseeing the mall demolition, also began demolishing the former JCPenney location earlier in the week, as reported by the City of Milwaukee.
With the demolition of Northridge Mall, redevelopment plans for the Granville area in Milwaukee are underway. The site will be reimagined, and residents are encouraged to share their input through the city's engagement portal at engage.milwaukee.gov/northridge, as stated by the City of Milwaukee.
