Tragedy struck Grand Rapids early yesterday morning when a house fire claimed the life of one individual on the city's Southeast Side. The Grand Rapids Fire Department was called to the scene at approximately 6:30 a.m. following reports of a fire at a home located on the 800 block of Griggs Street SE, according to coverage from WWMT.
Upon arrival, fire crews worked tirelessly to extinguish the active flames engulfing the residence quickly. During their search of the home, firefighters discovered one victim inside. The person was pronounced dead at the scene. The circumstance, under which no others were reportedly inside the house during the incident, left authorities to investigate the solitary nature of this calamity further. FOX 17 reported that the Grand Rapids Police Department aided the fire department in responding to the emergency.
The identity of the deceased has yet to be disclosed as firefighters and investigators remained on the scene, combing through the charred remains to piece together the sequence of events leading to this fatal occurrence. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
