A man has lost his life after a shooting occurred outside the Tally Ho Bar Lounge & Grill in Tampa as the city welcomed the new year, as per the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. The incident took place in the early hours of New Year’s Day and has prompted an ongoing investigation, the office reported. WFLA details that deputies responded to the scene at 7402 North 56th Street following a 1:43 a.m. call.
When the Sheriff's deputies arrived, not only they found a man with at least one gunshot wound behind the bar in the parking lot but also a community shaken by the violence on what was meant to be a festive occasion. Rushed to a nearby hospital, the individual was later pronounced dead, according to the sheriff's office. As the shooter remains at large, an appeal for witnesses and information has been issued. Officials have urged anyone who could shed light on the incident to come forward, asking them to contact the sheriff's office at 813-247-8200, a statement cited by WTSP.
The gravity of this tragedy was not lost on Sheriff Chad Chronister, who, in a statement obtained by the sheriff's office, remarked, "What should have been a night of celebration to welcome the new year has been overshadowed by this tragic incident." He confirmed that detectives are "working diligently to find answers and determine the events that led to this fatal shooting." That acknowledgment from Sheriff Chronister came with the assurance that their detectives were thoroughly investigating the matter.
As of now, the identity of the deceased has not been disclosed, and further details about potential motives or suspects remain sparse. This is an active investigation, with updates set to be released by the Public Affairs Office once available.
