A Fayette County man has died following an officer-involved shooting in Redstone Township, as confirmed by the Pennsylvania State Police and local authorities. The incident occurred around 9 p.m. yesterday at a home on Lyndale Road, where police were called to check on a reportedly suicidal man.
Responding to the scene, the Redstone Township Police Department made the initial contact, and later, state police from the Belle Vernon station were requested for backup, according to CBS News Pittsburgh reports. Fayette County District Attorney Mike Aubele disclosed that the man, now identified by the Fayette County Coroner's Office as 27-year-old Christopher Hackney, was shot by an officer from the Redstone Township.
Despite immediate medical attention at the scene, Hackney succumbed to his injuries. The ongoing investigation into the shooting has not yet provided details on the circumstances leading up to the moment police discharged their weapon. In a statement detailed by WPXI, the Pennsylvania State Police spokesperson relayed that medics treated Hackney, but he died on the scene.
