The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has reported the capture of the fifth suspect in the murder case of rapper Charles Jones, famously known as 'Julio Foolio'. Davion Murphy, 27, was apprehended yesterday at a Jacksonville apartment, according to details shared by News4JAX. The arrest was the result of a six-month pursuit and Murphy is expected to appear in court soon for the June attack that occurred outside a Tampa hotel, taking the life of Jones on his 26th birthday.
Investigational efforts by JSO’s SWAT team and the U.S. Marshals Service were to successfully locate Murphy at an apartment on Labelle Street. "This arrest highlights our commitment and perseverance to solving this murder," JSO Director of Investigations and Homeland Security Mark Romano said in a statement reported by both WFLA and First Coast News. Further, Romano emphasized the daily work by JSO and partners to hold individuals accountable for their actions.
Photos and videos from the scene of Murphy’s arrest show evidence of a forced entry by officers to detain the suspect. The attack on Jones believed to have been driven by a long-standing gang feud, led to a tragic end to the celebrations of his birthday. Jones had been reportedly moving from location to location before the fatal shooting, even sharing his whereabouts online, which may have assisted his assailants in tracking him down.
The authorities have stated that this case continues to unfold, and more information will be shared when it is deemed appropriate. Prior arrests in connection with the shooting included individuals identified as Isaiah Chance, Alicia Andrews, and Sean Gathright, who were taken into custody last July, alongside Rashad Murphy, as noted by News4JAX. All are connected to rival gangs in Jacksonville and are believed to have been collaborating in the plot that led to Jones' ultimate demise outside the Holiday Inn where he hoped to secure a room for the night.
