Five individuals face charges following last night's rally and march through downtown Portland. The Portland Police Bureau (PPB) and Oregon State Police (OSP) conducted targeted arrests for vandalism. The disturbances began in Tom McCall Waterfront Park near the Battleship Oregon Memorial. They escalated as some demonstrators took to graffiti, prompting police to intervene during the march at 6:50 p.m., when officers had been maintaining surveillance, as the City of Portland reported.
The Portland Police Bureau, with the assistance of their Event Liaisons and Oregon State Police, took charge of the situation, swiftly identifying and apprehending dedicated offenders who were disrupting the otherwise orderly event. The apprehended suspects included Julia Jacobson, Andrew S. Bolen, Allstair M. Sidener, Harmony Adcox, and William J. Leahy—a mix of charges from Criminal Mischief to Resisting Arrest have been reported. They were booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center (MCDC), with physical evidence such as paint cans being collected from the scene, according to a press release issued by the Portland Police Bureau.
After the rally, City of Portland crews began cleaning up graffiti. To inform the public, the Portland Police Bureau shared a recent episode of the Talking Beat Podcast, where their public order experts discussed the challenges of managing large events. Topics included planning, coordination, incident management techniques, the Incident Command System, and the role of Event Liaisons.
