A Floresville man has been handed a 200-month prison sentence after a conviction for transporting child sexual abuse material. Thirty-four-year-old Jeremy Michael Prieto was found guilty of trafficking such materials, which included sending them to an undercover FBI account, according to an announcement from the U.S. Attorney's Office.
The investigation unveiled that Prieto's criminal activities dated back to at least 2016, and the stash of his illegal content spanned over thousands of files, across multiple devices. Following his prison term, he's facing a lifetime on supervised release, and has been ordered to pay a hefty sum of $100,000 in restitution to 20 identified victims. In addition, Prieto was decreed to forfeit all devices and accounts that were implicated in the distribution of the abuse material.
U.S. Attorney Jaime Esparza of the Western District of Texas, whose office led the indictment, confirmed the sentencing. Esparza's announcement casts a light on the persistent, shadowed corners of internet crime, specifically those that trade on the innocence of children. The Federal Bureau of Investigation took charge of the investigation, rooting out the channels through which Prieto dealt his reprehensible commerce.
