On a brisk evening in Southern California, a routine check by a San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department deputy led to the arrest of a 65-year-old Fontana man. Walace Boyd was found at a bus stop near the Yaamava’ Resort & Casino with a container of suspected methamphetamine, according to KTLA. During the patrol that took place shortly after 9:45 p.m. on Saturday, Deputy E. Gonzalez conducted a pedestrian check that resulted in the discovery of the illicit substance.

Boyd, who has multiple prior drug-related convictions, was arrested for a violation under the recently enacted Proposition 36. This law, termed as "The Homelessness, Drug Addiction and Theft Reduction Act," aims to tackle issues that have been exacerbated by previous legislation, as per the SBSD Central. Gonzalez’s intervention led to Boyd's arrest on charges of the possession of a hard drug treatment mandated felony.

Boyd now faces a $30,000 bail, and he has been booked into the Central Detention Center Jail. The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department is continuing its investigation into the matter and encourages anyone with further information to step forward.
