A former Lake County Sheriff's Deputy, Tristan Macomber, has resigned following an internal investigation that disclosed he had been looking at pornographic material on his cellphone moments before crashing his patrol vehicle. According to ClickOrlando, the incident on Nov. 6, just before 2 p.m. on County Road 435 near Sorrento, involved Macomber rear-ending a vehicle that had stopped for a school bus.
The internal affairs report mentions that Macomber initially claimed his brakes locked up due to a recent speed calibration issue. However, investigators, having looked at dash and body cam footage, determined Macomber seemed to have quickly tossed his phone on the seat after the collision. He further admitted to having been viewing explicit content, directly stating it included images like "pornographic material like boobs or whatnot," as reported by ClickOrlando.
CBS12 reported that the investigation uncovered that Macomber had been dishonest about the nature of the material on his phone and his seatbelt use. In the wake of these findings, the former deputy was found to have violated three professional standards policies: the prohibition on particular electronic device use, departing from the truth, and failing to use a safety belt.
