Tomorrow rings in the 3rd annual Frisco Unity Day, an event dedicated to celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a slate of free activities set to blend education, performance, and remembrance. According to a news release from the City of Frisco, January 18 will see doors at Frisco City Hall swing open at 9:30 a.m., with the day’s program kicking off at 10 a.m. A jazz quartet from the University of North Texas is slated to perform, followed by spoken words from a student finalist in the Linking Cultures of Frisco competition.

The musical interlude will, thereafter, give way to the resonant voices of a gospel choir. Organizers encourage attendees to bring along canned or non-perishable food items, which will benefit Frisco Family Services. In a gesture to thread together the fabric of history and the present, participants can proceed to seamlessly take in a free screening of "Till" – a film chronicling the pursuit of justice by Mamie Till following the tragic 1955 murder of her son, Emmett. The screening is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at the nearby Frisco Square Cinemark, as per the City of Frisco.

In observance of the holiday honoring Martin Luther King Jr., Frisco government offices will pause services on Monday, returning to regular hours on Tuesday, January 21. Reiterating the sentiment behind Unity Day, Mayor Jeff Cheney was quoted, "We may have all come on different ships, but we’re in the same boat now," signaling a continued commitment to the values of inclusivity and the communal spirit espoused by Dr. King, as cited by the City of Frisco.
