The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has taken charge of a case that rocked the local community in Hancock County after a fatal shooting resulted in the death of an 18-year-old local, Javen Lamont Turner of Sparta, Georgia. In a turn of events following the initial investigation, four individuals, Darrian Deandre Greene, Nehemiah Henderson, Mikez Yaraus Edwards, and a 16-year-old juvenile, all from Sparta, have been charged with Felony Murder. Moreover, a 20-year-old Armarion Hunt also finds himself on the GBI's list, wanted for the same charge in connection with Turner’s passing last Saturday.
According to the GBI's release, the incident unfolded last Friday when a reported vehicle pursuit culminated in a shoot-out at the intersection of Broad and Miles Street. The passenger, later identified as Turner, sustained multiple gunshot wounds and succumbed the following day at a local hospital. Greene, Henderson, and Edwards were processed at the Hancock Sheriff’s Office, while the unidentified minor was placed in a Youth Detention Center.
Initially, the GBI sought to piece together the puzzle of an aggravated assault, a task requested by the Sparta Police Department, with no arrests made at the immediate time. Following calls to the Hancock County 911 center about the shooting, the scope of the investigation quickly escalated to a homicide as new evidence came to light and led to the swift apprehension of the suspects.
They continue urging anyone with information to reach out via multiple outlets, including their Regional Investigative Office in Milledgeville, an anonymous tip line, their online portal, or the "See Something, Send Something" mobile application. Once their investigation concludes, the case will be transferred to the Ocmulgee District Attorney's Office, which will take over for prosecution.
