Bundle up and lace your skates, Duluth's winter wonderland just got a little more magical. The City of Duluth Parks and Recreation division is set to open the Bayfront Park Warming House alongside the companion pleasure skating ice rink on Saturday, January 11, as reported earlier this week. In a bid to make this chilly pastime accessible to all, a variety of ice skates will be made available at no cost to skaters during operational hours, so whether you're a seasoned pro or just looking to glide on the ice for the first time, you're covered.
Not just a place to thaw your frozen fingertips, the warming house will double as a hub for indoor activities, featuring board games and art supplies for those taking a break from the ice or simply to warm up and unwind. In an equally cool move, the park's recreational curling rink will be open to the public during the same hours. so you take your pick between leisurely laps around the rink or the strategic slide of stones, each opportunity promising its own brand of icy entertainment.
Family-friendly and open for all seven days in the week, the Bayfront Park Warming House has tailored its schedule to fit almost anyone's calendar: 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm Monday through Friday; 12:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Saturdays; and for early birds, 10:00 am to 2:00 pm on Sundays. With the understanding that weather is as unpredictable as a puck on ice, any cancellations or schedule adjustments will be duly noted on the Duluth Parks and Recreation website and social media pages, ensuring you won't find yourself slipping up on any last-minute changes.
For those who have been around the rink a few times, this initiative may seem like a small gesture, but it's clear that the City of Duluth Parks and Recreation division is dedicated to providing an environment that not only entertains but also fosters community and togetherness in the frosty face of winter; besides, when faced with the choice of huddling indoors or embracing the season with a pair of skates and the camaraderie of fellow park-goers, it's not hard to see the appeal of the latter. Don't forget to check the website, perhaps tomorrow you'll be carving ice instead of couch indentations.
