
Haines City Police Department has now confirmed, Asiya La’Trece Roberts-Husband, aged 33, as the victim of a fatal shooting which transpired on December 27, 2024. The incident, described as a drive-by shooting, took place while Roberts-Husband was traveling in a white transport van with her 41-year-old employer, near Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way and Avenue K, as WFLA reported.
In the devastating event, an unknown assailant in a sedan unleashed multiple rounds at their vehicle. According to the ABC Action News, Police Chief Greg Goreck expressed the significance of remembering the victim both as a person and as a part of the community. “By showing Asiya’s face to the world, and say, ‘This is who we lost. This is the person that has been taken from us, our community’s been robbed of,’” he said, stressing on the impact of the loss.
The late Roberts-Husband was not only a beloved member of the Haines City community but also a mother to a two-year-old boy and worked both at Longhorn Steakhouse and at Rica’s Print Pack and Ship Center owned by her mother. The Ledger included a heartfelt statement from her mother, Elrica Roberts, saying, “Asiya had many, many friends and family that loved and adored her. Her smile was beautiful and made you smile, too. She was always happy. She loved people. She always wanted to help her friends. She was helping a friend when she was taken from us.”
Investigators are operating under the belief, that Roberts-Husband and her employer were intentionally targeted, although a clear motive has not yet been released. As the Haines City Police work fervently to unravel the details leading to the tragic incident, the 41-year-old employer, who sustained injuries, has received medical attention and is expected to make a recovery. The police department, referring to the incident as "a heart-wrenching tragedy," is still piecing together the events that led to Roberts-Husband's death, WFLA stated.
Chief Goreck emphasized the department's commitment to keeping the case at the forefront of public consciousness, saying, “We just want to keep this story fresh in everybody’s mind,” reminding us that the memory of Asiya Roberts-Husband resonates beyond the headlines, according to ABC Action News.
