A LeFlore County man has received a prison sentence for not complying with the sex offender registration requirements. Lenard Ray Bond, 31, from Hartshorne, Oklahoma, will serve 21 months behind bars followed by five years of supervised release, as announced by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
The charges came on the back of an investigation by the U.S. Marshals Service Violent Crime Fugitive Task Force and the LeFlore County Sheriff’s Office. Bond pleaded guilty on May 8, 2024, to one count of failure to register as a sex offender. In a previous ruling dating back to August 8, 2014, Bond was convicted for Second Degree Rape in the state of Oklahoma, a conviction that comes tethered with the obligation to register as a sex offender. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, investigators found that Bond had not complied with this requirement between April 14, 2019, and March 15, 2024, despite changing residences multiple times within the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
The sentencing was carried out by Chief U.S. District Judge Ronald A. White of the Eastern District of Oklahoma. It was determined that Bond is to remain under the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service until he's transported to a federal Bureau of Prisons facility to begin serving his non-paroleable sentence, as per the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Emily Wittlinger and Jessica Bove represented the government in this case. The sentencing is a stark reminder of the legal expectations placed upon those found guilty of sex offenses and the consequences of neglecting those responsibilities.
