The City of Henderson spotlighted the cream of its educational crop this week, rolling out honors for 19 public schools that bagged a five-star rating from the Nevada Department of Education. At an annual recognition event, Mayor Michelle Romero took center stage, handing out accolades to these schools for their stellar performance.
In a city where the educational benchmarks are continually on the rise, nearly one-third of Henderson’s top schools have carved out a space for themselves in this list. "Almost one-third of the valley’s top-performing schools are right here in Henderson, and we were proud to recognize these exceptional school leaders for creating strong, supportive learning environments," Mayor Romero expressed, according to a statement from the City of Henderson. Notably, this year's awardees include a significant proportion of charter schools, which represent more than two-thirds of the total.
This distinction is not just a feather in the cap for the schools but also a marker of choice for families in the area. Mayor Romero highlighted the rise of charter schools by stating, “As a new charter school authorizer, we look forward to building on that success to provide even more educational choices for Henderson families,” according to the City of Henderson. The 19 honored educational institutions range from elementary schools to high schools, demonstrating the quality of education that pervades multiple levels of the city’s education system.
A remarkable mix of specialized academies and traditional institutions populate the list this year. Schools like Coronado High School are joined by the likes of Gordon McCaw STEAM Academy, marking a diverse spread of pedagogical approaches. Notably, the Pinecrest network has a strong showing, with multiple campuses securing a spot. The schools honored, including College of Southern Nevada South High School, Coral Academy of Science’s Sandy Ridge and Windmill schools, and others continue to raise the bar for educational excellence in Henderson.
The City of Henderson's celebration of these schools is a testament to the commitment of its educators and students alike. As the city looks forward, the benchmark set by these 19 schools will serve as an aspirational standard for others to strive towards, ensuring that the pursuit of educational brilliance remains at the forefront of Henderson's collective mind.
