The Henderson Police Department wrapped up its latest crusade against impaired driving, part of the Joining Forces Program. Funded by a federal grant, the initiative seeks to curb traffic-related offenses and enhance road safety in Nevada.

According to a recent release, from December 16, 2024 through Sunday, officers pulled over 820 vehicles, handing out citations and making arrests to enforce the law and keep the streets safe. Among those traffic stops, 4 led to arrests for DUI, highlighting the ever-present danger of impaired driving that these programs aim to reduce.

The campaign also yielded 217 speeding citations, highlighting the importance of maintaining legal speed limits for the protection of all road users, alongside 46 intersection violations and 6 tickets for distracted driving. The police issued a total of 547 citations for a variety of other traffic transgressions, demonstrating the multifaceted approach that law enforcement is taking to address roadway safety.

These efforts are underpinned by a significant investment of $179,000 in federal funding from the Nevada Department of Public Safety – Office of Traffic Safety for the 2025 Joining Forces program, designated for enhanced enforcement and education initiatives. This financial influx is intended not only for punitive measures, but also to advance preventative education to reduce the rate of deaths and injuries on the roads of Nevada, particularly through targeting pedestrian safety, seat belt use, speeding, distracted, and impaired driving.
