An argument at the Hickory's The Landings of Hickory apartment complex turned violent on Monday evening, leading to one man being hospitalized and another man arrested. According to the Queen City News, the Hickory Police Department reported that around 5 p.m., officers responded to a shooting at the apartment complex at 1836 20th Avenue Drive NE. They found 31-year-old Lee Wilson with gunshot wounds. Wilson was treated and is in stable condition at Catawba Valley Medical Center.

The incident reportedly began with a verbal confrontation between Wilson and the suspect, 55-year-old Donzell Lamont Wilfong. After the argument, Wilfong is accused of shooting Wilson. Wilfong has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury, and possession of a firearm by a felon. He is currently being held without bond, as WCCB Charlotte reported.

Witnesses at the scene described hearing what sounded like half a dozen shots fired. The Catawba County Justice Center is now holding Wilfong, as per WSOC-TV.

Hickory Police are continuing to investigate the shooting and have urged anyone with additional information to come forward. Information can be shared with Investigator Cameron Storie at [email protected] or by calling the Hickory Police Department at 828-328-5551.
