A Hilliard Police Department sergeant and several dispatchers were recently honored for their exemplary response to an emergency. Sgt. Jared Zellers, alongside dispatchers Jess Posey, Rita Distelhorst, Brett Goldstein, and Ben Karns of the Northwest Regional Emergency Communications Center (NRECC), were recognized by the Kyle Plush Answer the Call Foundation for their swift and effective actions.

During an incident earlier this year, the team effectively coordinated their efforts to assist a confused man driving in circles on the highway. Using a combination of phone and traffic camera information across central Ohio communities, the man was successfully located after Sgt. Zellers convinced him to stop driving over the phone. According to an announcement by the City of Hilliard, the man received the necessary medical attention.

The Kyle Plush Foundation, a Cincinnati-based nonprofit organization, aims to promote excellence within the 911 industry. As reported by the City's official website, Sgt. Zellers and the four NRECC Communications Technicians have set high standards for commitment and competence. During an online meeting, NRECC CT Brett Goldstein and HPD Sgt. Zellers were pictured accepting their challenge coins for answering their daily call to be their best selves.
